As the Junior Bro enjoys honeymoon bliss basking on the beaches of Fiji and trying his hand at scuba diving, meanwhile across the windswept seas to North American football fields the window of opportunity is rapidly closing for those who would dethrone him from his championship reign, and the only diving occurring in Week 15 was the competition’s place in the standings.
Football is meant to be played on Sunday, but the outcome of the 2023 GBF season may have just been decided by two splits on a lazy Saturday barely a week before Christmas, while many were tending to last-minute shopping trips and other holiday season rituals. They might not have watched or cared that the Steelers lost to the Colts, 30-13, that afternoon, or that the Lions played 34 minutes of shutout football en route to a 42-17 triumph over the Broncos in the nightcap. But those things both happened, and they mattered a lot in a weekend that otherwise saw total agreement among our panel of prognosticators.
For Glenn, the only thing worse than getting swept to fall 7 games behind with just three weeks left to play in the hunt for the 2023 Surfy Trophy was seeing the “ones that got away” — the five games that everyone missed that could have told a different story in Week 15. From the overtime comeback of the Texans over the Titans, to the dominant takedown of the Cowboys by the Bills, to the Monday night stunning upset of the Eagles by the Seahawks… all will be an inconsequential footnote when the final chapter is written on this year’s title run.
Vacation apparently suits Sean well, as his 11-5 record led the way this week. Ben went 10-6 for second place, but still remains 2 games behind his dad in the overall standings after Glenn took third at 9-7. We all chose correctly with Cincinnati, Miami, New Orleans, Kansas City, Cleveland, San Francisco, the L.A. Rams, and Baltimore. No one picked Tampa Bay, Houston, Carolina, Buffalo or Seattle.
