If the number 9 is considered to be auspicious in Vietnamese culture, then Sean probably considers himself the luckiest man alive. Coming off his multicultural wedding ceremony on Saturday (Dec. 9), the Junior Bro not only left bachelorhood behind, but dodged a potential setback on the road to another Surfy Trophy despite a disastrous 6-9 performance in Week 14. …Which can only be considered lucky if your competition turns in the same disastrous performance.

Home teams ruled the day, winning nine of the 15 games in the final bye-shortened week of the season. It was a weekend in which little seemed to go as expected for the favorites, many of which suffered defeat at the hands of lesser and unlikely opponents. To say that there were missed opportunities for Glenn or Ben to regain some of their lost ground in the standings would be an understatement. But chances not taken at this point in the season might as well be losses, no less frustrating than splits that don’t go your way.

There were only two splits on the docket in Week 14. In the first, Glenn rode Cincinnati’s 34-14 upset of Indianapolis to an early advantage, but failed to capitalize when Denver easily dispatched the L.A. Chargers in a lopsided 24-7 contest at SoFi Stadium. Meanwhile, the week was bookended by upsets with the Patriots toppling the Steelers on Thursday and AFC-leading Miami dumped at home by Tennessee, which got its first road win of the season. High-flying Detroit, Jacksonville, Houston, Kansas City, Green Bay and Philadelphia also got their come-uppance, even though most of them will have the last laugh when the playoff picture is settled next month.

Oh yes, there are just 64 games remaining in the regular season, and Sean still holds a 5-game advantage as he prepares to jet across the Pacific for Fiji and New Zealand on a romantic honeymoon. The Bros collectively turned in 6-9 records for the week. We only mutually correctly picked four winners: Baltimore, New Orleans, Minnesota and San Francisco. We all missed wins by New England, Chicago, Cleveland, Tennessee, both New York-named teams and Buffalo.
