The roar of the crowd and the unrelenting rays of the afternoon sun kept the Gehlke Bros on the edge of their nosebleed seats at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on Sunday as we were on hand to watch the 49ers defeat Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers, 27-14. And while it may have been satisfying to see the home team win, it was another game several hours later and 1,200 miles away that would have an impact on the GBF standings.

Glenn and Sean’s lone Week 11 split came in the Sunday nighter in Denver, where the Broncos hosted the Vikings, and it was a bit of a thriller. Wil Lutz had a busy night for the home team, as he put up five field goals to account for all of the offense until late in the fourth quarter. With Minnesota leading by 5, Russell Wilson hit Courtland Sutton at the back of the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown to put Denver up by a single point. After the 2-point attempt failed, that left the Vikings with a chance to win the game on a field goal. But when quarterback Josh Dobbs got flagged for intentional grounding and then failed to complete a 4th-and-25 on the subsequent play, the once irrelevant Broncos escaped with a 21-20 win — their fourth consecutive victory.
The Senior Bro benefited from the win, pulling back to 4 games behind in the race for the Surfy Trophy and going 10-4 on the week for first place. Sean took second at 9-5, while Ben went 8-6 to slip back into a second-place tie with his dad. There was a lot of agreement on predictions, and a lot of correct calls: We were right on Baltimore, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Jacksonville, Miami, Buffalo and San Francisco. No one picked the wins by Cleveland, Green Bay, the N.Y. Giants, or Philadelphia.
