It was the week of last-second, game-winning field goals — five of them, to be exact, which was a NawFuL record. That none of those games factored into the action for the Gehlke Bros during a bye-shortened Week 10 is something of a minor miracle, although there were other threes that did matter.

That would be three, as in the number of splits. And 3, as in the number of points that the Jags put on the scoreboard in a losing cause as they were steamrolled at home by the well rested and suddenly rejuvenated 49ers. The 34-3 thrashing proved to be the winning ticket for the Junior Bro, who also got a 10-6 win by the Colts over the Patriots in Frankfurt, Germany, to take two of three splits and add a game to his lead in the Surfy standings.

It proved to be a bad week for gambling on underdogs — at least those we did gamble on — as Glenn paid the price with the Pats and Jaguars, while Sean slipped a bit taking the Saints; they lost on the road to the Vikings, 27-19, to give Glenn his lone split victory.

Sean and Ben laid claim to the best performances of the week, finishing at 8-6 to remain three games apart in the overall standings. Glenn went 7-7 to fall 5 games off the pace with eight weeks left in the regular season. Somehow we managed to all pick correctly with winners Chicago, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Dallas and Seattle. But we were all stumped by Cleveland, Houston, Arizona, and Denver — all of which won on last-second kicks along with the Lions — as well as Tampa Bay.
