The road to the Surfy Trophy passed through Florida in Week 6, as the Bros split a pair of games down in the Sunshine State. Although he was halfway around the world, the Junior Bro hoped that some home cooking would do the trick to eat into a 4-game deficit as the season completed its first trimester.
The early game saw Seattle against favored Jacksonville. The Jaguars have scored some mighty wins this year over the 49ers and Chiefs, but similar success proved elusive on Sunday against a stout Seahawks defense, as Sam Darnold racked up 295 yards and a pair of touchdowns en route to a 20-12 Seattle victory that ensured Glenn would lose no ground.
But he wouldn’t gain any either. That was because Tampa Bay defeated injury-depleted San Francisco in a battle of 4-1 teams that was never all that close. Although the Niners were able to hang with the Bucs for a while, they proved to be their own worst enemy as Mac Jones coughed up a pair of interceptions that overshadowed his 347 passing yards, and the team lost star linebacker Fred Warner for the season after he tripped over one of his teammates and broke his ankle. Tampa Bay won the game, 30-19, helping Sean avoid what would have been a disastrous sweep.
In the second of the bye weeks Ben again reigned supreme, going 11-4 to extend his overall lead to 5 games . Meanwhile, Sean and Glenn tied for second place at 10-5. We collectively picked winners Denver, Pittsburgh, L.A. Rams and Chargers, Indianapolis, New England, Las Vegas, Green Bay and Kansas City. We all managed to miss the wins by the N.Y. Giants, Carolina, Chicago and Atlanta.
