We’ve reached the final quarter of the 2025 Gehlke Bros. Football season, a four-week sprint to the finish line for both the Bros and the football teams whose success or lack thereof on the field will determine who hoists the Surfy Trophy come January. And for some, the end of the season came sooner than planned on Sunday.

We’re talking the Chiefs and the Bengals, both of whom were eliminated from playoff contention in separate games on Sunday morning. And for Glenn and Sean, the results were a mixed bag — a split of the splits that left the standings unchanged in the battle for the Surfy.

Hoping to preserve or extend his scant 2-game lead, the Senior Bro found himself in the win column when the Ravens went into Cincinnati and paid back the Bengals for a Week 13 defeat by shutting out their division rivals, 24-0. That left it up to Kansas City for a chance to go up by 4 games, as the Chiefs tried for some payback of their own against the visiting Chargers, to whom they lost in their season opener down in Sao Paulo, Brazil, back in Week 1.

The Chiefs struck first with a 68-yard touchdown drive on their opening possession, but it would be their only TD of the day. The Chargers clawed their way back, eventually taking a 16-13 lead just before the end of the third quarter that stood until late in the fourth, when Kansas City tried to make a final scoring drive on the arm and not so steady legs of the ailing Patrick Mahomes. That was until Mahomes went down with a torn ACL that will sideline him for the rest of the season. Enter backup Gardner Minshew, who hadn’t played a snap all season. The Chiefs were nearly in field goal range when Minshew threw an ill-timed pass that found its way into the hands of Chargers Safety Derwin James Jr., and the game was over — along with Kansas City’s season. An inglorious end to a 9-season run as AFC West champs that included five Stupor Bore appearances and three championships.

Meanwhile, the Junior Bro continues to cling to hope that he can extend his championship run to seven, but he’ll have some work to do in the final 48 games as we near the end of the 2025 GBF season. In Week 15, all three Bros tied at 10-6, which leaves King Chaos with a commanding 7-game advantage in the overall standings. We all correctly picked Buffalo, Jacksonville, Philadelphia, Houston, Chicago, L.A. Rams, San Francisco, Seattle and Pittsburgh. Our collective incorrect forecasts included Atlanta, Washington, New Orleans, Denver and Minnesota.
