If they gave a trophy for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, the Senior Bro would be well on his way to winning it in 2025. Unfortunately there are no awards for such things, and Glenn’s odds of laying his hands on the Surfy Trophy this season just got a lot longer after another Sunday Slump down in the Peach State.

Carolina and Atlanta provided the only action in Week 11, with Glenn betting the Dirty Birds would rebound from a 30-0 blowout when the two teams previously met in Week 3. That game had marked the Panthers’ first win, and since then they added four more to even their record at 5-5, while Atlanta sat at 3-6 riding a four-game losing streak since improbably mopping the floor with Buffalo back in Week 6. Sean stuck with Carolina to sweep the season series and in so doing further his own comeback story as he finds himself in the unusual role of underdog in the GBF competition.

After the Falcons went three and out on their first possession, the Panthers opened with a 12-play, 73-yard drive that ended with a Tetairoa McMillan touchdown and it looked like it might be the start of another long afternoon for Atlanta. But the Falcons found their offense and proceeded to score 21 unanswered points before their opponents closed out the half with a field goal to make it 21-10. Falcons fans might be forgiven for thinking their starcrossed team was on the way to getting payback for that Sept. 21 loss — but they thought wrong.

The Panthers opened the second half with a 68-yard scoring drive capped by a 35-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Legette. Then the Falcons muffed the ensuing kickoff return and it was only by fate that the Panthers failed to reach the end zone while going for it on fourth down. They added a field goal on the following possession to make it 21-19 and that was it until late in the fourth. With Kirk Cousins in at quarterback for the injured Michael Penix Jr., the Falcons drove deep into the red zone before having to settle for a field goal that could have iced the game. But their porous defense proved icy as well, and it was on Bryce Young’s passing attack and Rico Dowdle’s legs that the Panthers drove for the go-ahead score on McMillan’s second touchdown of the day and a 2-point conversion to make it 27-24. Atlanta kept hope alive with a 39-yard kickoff return that eventually set up a Zane Gonzalez 45-yarder to send the game to overtime. But despite winning the coin toss, the Falcons went three and out. Young promptly hit Tommy Tremble for a 54-yard pass that culminated in a 28-yard field goal for the win: Carolina, 30; Atlanta, 27.

The 14-point come-from-ahead loss was at least the third such meltdown for one of Glenn’s teams this season. It happened in Week 1 when the Ravens gave up a 15-point fourth quarter lead to the Bills in a 41-40 Sunday night defeat, and again in Week 5 when the Dolphins squandered a 17-0 lead against the same Panthers in a 27-24 loss. Both of those were road teams, however. In a five-week span, the Junior Bro has won four of them to completely erase Glenn’s lead as we head to the final seven weeks of the season.

Sean’s 12-3 record in Week 11 was also good enough to pull him a game closer to Ben in the overall standings. King Chaos still leads that race by 5 games after tying with his dad for second place with an identical 11-4 mark. We said adios to international games this season by all correctly picking Miami to win in Madrid. We were also collectively correct with New England, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Green Bay, Houston, San Francisco, Baltimore, Philadelphia and Dallas. There were just two games that fooled all of us, including winners Jacksonville and Denver.
