The Senior Bro may have returned from his Mexico cruise at the start of October, but apparently his football prognosticating skills are still on vacation somewhere south of the border — precisely where he is in the increasingly polarized 2017 Gehlke Bros. Football season standings after an abysmal Week 7 showing that now finds Sean with a double-digit lead in his quest to retake the Surfy.

While it has been said often in sports that it’s never over until it’s over, we have seen this movie a few times before in recent GBF seasons, most recently in 2014 and 2015 when it was Glenn with the early commanding lead. In no season has anyone ever surmounted a 10-game deficit. And while it is not yet statistically impossible for the Senior Bro to accomplish that feat, the momentum clearly rests with the Junior Bro, who has been winning splits early and by substantial margins.

The home teams proved that they do occasionally win games, taking 10 of 15 contests in a bye-shortened week. One of the few home field losers was Indianapolis, which failed to score a single point in a 27-0 drubbing by rival Jacksonville. The Patriots did not need a furious comeback this time in their Stupor Bore rematch with the Falcons, winning 23-7 on Sunday night. And it was Philadelphia’s 34-24 victory over Washington on Monday night that completed a 3-split sweep for Sean.

In football terms, Sean’s 10-game lead at this stage in the season would be equivalent to being up three touchdowns and a field goal before halftime. He has outpaced his brother 15-5 in split victories since Week 3, when we were briefly tied after the only week that Glenn has won so far. If each Bro had to select the team he most resembles, Sean would be the 6-1 Eagles and Glenn would be the 1-6 Giants. Enough said.

Sean cruised to his fourth consecutive weekly win with an 11-4 record, while Glenn wound up second at 8-7, taking some consolation at finishing above .500 for the first time since Week 3. Ben was third at 7-8. We all were correct with Miami, Pittsburgh, Dallas and Seattle. No one predicted the wins by teams from Los Angeles — Rams or Chargers.
