On paper it looked like Week 5 should be dominated by road teams, and indeed it was; 10 of the 14 games were won by the visitors. Unfortunately for the Senior Bro, most of those winning performances were not the ones he predicted. Sean’s picks meanwhile were substantially closer to the mark, and the end result was a rout that puts the Junior Bro firmly in control as the leader in the Surfy standings once again.

It was the second straight week with a pile of splits — five of them — coming in the first of the NawFuL’s originally scheduled bye weeks. While four of the teams rested, apparently so too did some of those that were on the field Sunday. The Senior Bro’s day more than slightly resembled Ben Roethlisberger’s five picks he threw during Pittsburgh’s embarrassing 30-9 home loss to the Jaguars, which prompted the Stupor Bore-winning quarterback to say, “Maybe I don’t have it anymore.” Unlike Big Ben, Glenn might not ready to throw in his Terrible Towel just yet, but he certainly has plenty to think about after falling five games behind on the season.

The Senior Bro’s highlight reel was brief: a 27-24 victory by the Panthers (on the road) against the Lions. The rest of the day belonged to Sean, thanks in part to two rare home winners. The 49ers dropped their second consecutive OT game at Indianapolis when the Colts kicked a game-winning field goal, 26-23. And the Bills only held off the host Bengals through three quarters before falling 20-16. But the roadies again asserted themselves in the afternoon as the Ravens beat the banged-up Raiders, 30-17, and then on Sunday night when the undefeated Chiefs dominated the Texans, 42-34, in a game that was much less close than the final score might indicate.

Sean picked up three games in the standings with his 9-5 record. Ben (the one not named Roethlisberger) went 8-6 for second place, while Glenn struggled to another sub-.500 finish at 6-8. Our mutually correct predictions included New England, the New York Jets and Philadelphia. No one predicted the wins by the Los Angeles Chargers or Jacksonville.
