Occasionally it's not so much a question of picking the right teams as it is of avoiding the wrong teams. That was very much the case in Week 7 of the Gehlke Bros. Football season. With 14 games on the line as the bye weeks continued, there were few games that on paper appeared to offer high split potential. That was reflected in the general agreement across the board, with the Bros and the Chaos Kid picking unanimously in 10 of the games.

And because we know from experience that weeks that appear highly predictable on paper usually turn out to be anything but, it was up to the Bros to figure out just where the upsets might occur, and how many. Sean thought he knew, tapping Detroit to perhaps win its second straight game against a division rival when Minnesota came to call, which would have put the team on a colossal 2-game winning streak. Well, it would have been colossal to a team that had started the year 0-5.

The Lions indeed looked more like the winning team in the first half, jumping out to a 17-6 lead midway through the second quarter before the Vikings got things going. The second half was a different story, and in the end it was the Vikes taking the 28-19 victory on the road. It was the week's only split, and Glenn managed to add to what is now a 7-game lead in the battle for the Surfy Trophy, the Senior Bro's largest advantage of the season.

Glenn's 10-4 mark was the best for the week. Sean and Ben tied for second with 9-5 records. About those aforementioned unanimous picks, we were correct on guessing Seattle, Miami, New England, St. Louis, Atlanta, Washington and the New York Giants. The three winners that threw all of us were Jacksonville (playing in London), New Orleans and Oakland.
