What do you get when you combine Monday Night Football with Halloween? You get a recipe for monstrous miscues and frightful finishes like the kind San Diego experienced in Kansas City in Week 8. Cue the creepy music...
With just under a minute to play in the fourth quarter, the Chargers were driving for what should have been an easy field goal that would have broken a 20-20 tie and probably would have locked up a come-from-behind victory. Instead, Philip Rivers muffed a snap inside the 15 and the Chiefs recovered, setting up an overtime finish in which the home team marched down the field and kicked the game-winning field goal.
The win did more than create a three-way tie atop the AFC West, it also gave the Junior Bro a sweep of the weekend's two splits and gave him a heady 5-game lead nearly midway through the season. On Sunday afternoon, Sean's Steelers picked up a 25-17 win over the visiting Patriots.
Sean won the week with a 10-3 record, while Ben finished second at 9-4 and Glenn brought up the rear at 8-5. We were all correct in picking Tennessee, Houston, Baltimore, the N.Y. Giants, Buffalo, Detroit, San Francisco and Cincinnati. Carolina and New Orleans turned out to be the week's zombie teams (and who could have guessed that of the Saints after last week's 62-7 rout?)
