Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory

What the football gods giveth, the football gods can just as easily taketh away. So it was in Week 2, where the Gehlke Bros. found their fortunes reversed from the opening weekend that saw Glenn snag a 2-game lead. On this Sunday, luck was entirely with the Junior Bro.

In what appeared to be an easy week for predictions, Glenn and Sean split on just two games. In the opener, Minnesota jumped out to a 17-0 lead on visiting Tampa Bay, defying the pundits who thought the Bucs would be a shoo-in for the win. But Tampa Bay fought back, and it came down to a late fourth quarter touchdown that gave them — and Sean — a 24-20 victory.

In the late game, the Senior Bro again went against the grain, taking the underdog 49ers over a smarting Cowboys team that had blown a late 2-TD lead against the Jets a week ago. The Niners jumped out to an unexpected 14-0 lead before wilting in the second half when a banged-up Tony Romo, playing with cracked ribs, brought his team back to tie the game in the waning seconds, and then two plays into overtime the 'Boys kicked a game-winning field goal for the 27-24 final.

So, as the old saw goes, it's a whole new ballgame heading into Week 3, with Glenn and Sean both tied for the lead and Ben just 3 games back. For the week, Sean's 14-2 record paved the way. Ben was next at 13-3, and Glenn brought up the rear with a 12-4 mark, which would have been a dominating performance most weeks. We collectively picked 12 winners — likely a record — and the only two we completely missed were Tennessee's and Cleveland's wins.
