A shocking week in football: Surfy takes a tumble in quake
Contrary to what some might think, the 5.6 earthquake that rocked the Bay Area last Tuesday evening was not caused by the Raiders dumping Daunte Culpepper as their starting QB. But the temblor, centered near the Junior Bro's home base of San Jose, did send the Surfy trophy cascading to the floor when a shelf collapsed. Could it be symbolic of another collapse in the future for the 2-time defending Gehlke Bros. Football champ's 2007 quest for a three-peat?
If so, it didn't materialize in Week 9, as Sean widened his lead in the the standings to a hefty four games. If you believe that aftershocks can do almost as much damage as the initial quake, then Sean winning three of the four split games he had with the Senior Bro dealt a punishing blow. New Orleans handled Jacksonville, the Raiders fell to the Texans, and it was Dallas pummeling Philadelphia on Sunday night to give Sean his wins. Only Cleveland's overtime comeback against visiting Seattle prevented the sweep. Sean dominated the bye-shortened schedule, going 12-2. Glenn managed a 10-4 record, while Ben's strategy whatever it might be led him to another frustrating week at 5-9. We all correctly predicted winds by Tennessee, Atlanta and Pittsburgh. But like the trembling earth this week, the football gods found fault in our pick of San Diego. And congratulations to the Patriots and their "Game of the Century" win over the formerly undefeated Colts. A sneak preview of the AFC Championship game? Stay tuned... |
