Fortunes fleeting as a failed field goal drive
In the financial world, fortunes are made and lost in a heartbeat. A few cents' change in a stock's value can mean hundreds of thousands of dollars lost or gained. The same principle seemed to hold true in Week 7 of the Gehlke Bros. Football season. But instead of something as insignificant as stock certificates, an entire weekend's momentum hung in the balance.
Bros Junior and Senior had three splits. Glenn cashed in on the first one when Detroit defeated visiting Tampa Bay. In the afternoon it came down to a costly interception that allowed the Chiefs to hang on against the Raiders in Oakland, which gave Glenn two wins on the weekend and a chance to take a two-game lead on the defending champ. But the Chicago Bears had other plans. They prevailed in a see-saw battle with host Philadelphia and allowed Sean to escape a Sunday Sweep. As a result, we're all knotted up again heading into mid-season. It was a decent week for the Senior Bro, who went 10-4 despite dropping both the Sunday and Monday night games. Sean was 9-5, while Ben wound up 8-6 despite being the only one to correctly pick the Sunday and Monday night games. Our fortunes were high in correctly predicting wins by Washington, New England, the New York Giants and Tennessee. But the chips were down along with our pick of Baltimore, which was upset in Buffalo. |
