Senior Bro ends 5-week skid as football community mourns
While the football world this week mourned the death of Washington Redskins player Sean Taylor, who was fatally shot in his home following last week's game, it seemed impossible that anything happening on the field could steal the headline. A couple of teams tried. The Patriots narrowly avoided their first loss of the season with a last-minute win at Baltimore. The Raiders beat their second division opponent in a row after going 17 straight divisional games without a win. And then there was the Senior Bro, who gained ground in the Gehlke Bros. Football standings for the first time after five straight weeks.
It started with Thursday night's win by the Cowboys over the Packers in what might have been a preview of the NFC championship game. Brett Favre went down with an injured arm, but Glenn picked up a key split. On Sunday, Minnesota beat Detroit to give the Senior Bro more of an edge, but it was the Jets keeping Miami winless and the Eagles losing at home to the Seahawks that enabled Sean to keep things even. It all came down to the 'Skins emotional home game against the Bills. Washington led most of the game before Buffalo came back in the waning seconds to kick a game-winning field goal that spoiled a feel-good storyline but allowed Glenn to end his losing ways at least for this week. Even so, the Junior Bro still has a firm grasp on the lead, which is now six games with four weeks left in the season. For Week 13, Glenn went 12-4, Sean was 11-5, Ben finished at 9-7. We all predicted accurately the wins by Tennessee, Indianapolis, San Diego, Carolina, Pittsburgh and New England. We weren't so accurate with our pick of Denver. YET ANOTHER THURSDAY ALERT: You know the drill... We'll have our predictions of the Chicago/Washington game Thursday morning. |
